Special Finishes are premium print effects that add shine, texture, or dimension to parts of your design. They’re a way to highlight key details like your logo, name, or patterns so they stand out visually and physically.
At MOO, Special Finishes are available on select Business Cards and other chosen products, depending on the paper stock.
What Special Finishes does MOO offer?
Here are the Special Finishes currently available at MOO:
Gold Foil | Silver Foil | Spot Gloss | Raised Spot Gloss |
Gold Foil
Gold Foil adds a metallic gold layer to specific areas of your design. It reflects light and gives a bold, eye-catching finish.
Great for:
Logos
Names
Simple icons or patterns
Silver Foil
Silver Foil gives your design a sleek, metallic silver shine. It works beautifully with dark backgrounds for strong contrast.
Raised Spot Gloss
Raised Spot Gloss adds a clear, glossy layer that sits slightly above the surface of the card. You can both see and feel it.
It’s perfect for:
Bold text
Patterns
Graphic shapes
How do Special Finishes work?
Special Finishes are applied as a separate layer during production. That means:
They aren’t printed in standard ink.
You’ll need to upload artwork that clearly shows where the finish should go.
Very fine lines or tiny text may not work well.
Each product page includes specific artwork guidelines to help you set up your file correctly.
Can I use Special Finishes anywhere in my design?
There are a few limitations to make sure everything prints cleanly:
Minimum line thickness applies
Small or intricate details may not hold the finish
Finished areas shouldn’t overlap in unsupported ways
We recommend using Special Finishes on bold, simple elements for the best results.
Do Special Finish products cost more?
Yes. Because they require extra materials and production steps, Special Finish products are priced higher than standard print.
