Gold and Silver Foil Postcards

What are Gold and Silver Foil Postcards?

Gold and Silver Foil Postcards are double-sided, full-colour Postcards printed on Super paper with a velvety Soft Touch finish, then enhanced with raised metallic foil applied to selected parts of your design.

Choose Gold Foil or Silver Foil for the whole pack. The foil sits on top of the Soft Touch coating, creating a tactile shine that catches the light and stands out against the smooth background.

Is this right for you?

This works well if you want:

• Postcards with raised metallic Gold or Silver Foil accents
• A velvety Soft Touch finish
• Key details like logos, names or headlines to stand out
• Double-sided, full-colour printing
• Up to 25 different back designs per pack with Printfinity
• A strong, nicely “un-bendy” postcard feel

Compared to other postcard paper stocks:

• Foil Postcards are printed on Super Postcards with a Soft Touch finish because this is required for the foil production process
• Original is great quality and great value, available with matte or gloss coating, but foil cannot be added to Original Postcards
• Luxe is super-thick, uncoated and naturally textured, but foil cannot be added to Luxe Postcards

Gold and Silver Foil options

You can choose either Gold Foil or Silver Foil for your Postcards. Both create a raised metallic finish that works best on selected design details, like a logo, name, headline or simple graphic.

Gold and Silver Foil cannot be combined in a single pack. When you select your foil colour, the entire pack will use that foil.

Gold Foil A raised metallic gold finish for selected design accents.

Silver Foil A raised metallic silver finish for selected design accents.

Special finishes work best as design accents. Avoid large, solid blocks of foil and try to balance standard print with special finish. In total, each side of your design must contain less than 30% special finish.

Where foil can be added

Foil can be added to any side that has Soft Touch coating. That’s because the foil goes on top of the Soft Touch coating, which is required as part of the production process.

If you leave a side uncoated so you can write on it, foil cannot be added to that side. Foil is not available on Original, Luxe or any other postcard paper type.

Coated side Foil can be added to a side with Soft Touch coating.

Uncoated side If a side is left uncoated for writing, foil cannot be added to that side.

Preparing your artwork

To set up a design with Gold or Silver Foil, you’ll need to separate your artwork into layers:

• One file for your main printed design
• One file for the foil layer, showing exactly where the foil should be applied

Your foil artwork should be:

• Vector-based
• Black and white only
• Set to 100% black (CMYK 0/0/0/100) for the foil areas
• Saved as a PDF

If you’re unsure, it’s worth reviewing the full Special Finishes design requirements before finalising your design.

Design tips for best results

Foil works best when used as an accent rather than the main feature.

• Use foil as an accent, not the entire design
• Avoid large solid areas of foil
• Keep foil coverage to less than 30% of each side
• Simple, bold shapes will give the cleanest result
• Balance standard print with special finish for the best effect
